Unveiled: Whitney’s Wedding

Wel­come to Gen­er­a­tion Tux’s Unveiled! Here we inter­view real brides from real wed­dings to give you all the inside scoop. Whit­ney and Jordan’s love sto­ry and wed­ding day details are sure to inspire and give you all the feels.

Where was the wed­ding?

It was in Maui, Hawaii at Olowalu Plan­ta­tion House. I was born and raised in Maui, and Jor­dan was born and raised in Port­land, Ore­gon.

How did you and Jor­dan meet?

So, we actu­al­ly met at work! We both work for a con­struc­tion com­pa­ny. We are project man­agers there.

How did Jor­dan pro­pose?

He pro­posed in Decem­ber 2017. We went to Brook’s Win­ery in Port­land. There was an out­door area set up for us to do wine tast­ings. Jordan’s friend Jack­son was there with us. Jor­dan asked Jack­son, “Before we leave, can you take a pho­to of us?” I had no idea what was com­ing! As he was tak­ing the pho­to, I looked over at Jor­dan, and he was down on one knee. I don’t real­ly remem­ber any­thing he said because I was in shock! I fell to my knees because I was so sur­prised.

Tell me about your wed­ding dress! What was your favorite thing about it?

I wore a Justin Alexan­der dress. It was form-fit­ting with a long train. My favorite part of the dress was the gloves that came with it. I just thought they were so cool! Jor­dan and I did a first look, but I want­ed to sur­prise him with some­thing dif­fer­ent as I was walk­ing down the aisle. I wore the gloves dur­ing the cer­e­mo­ny. The pic­ture of our “I do” kiss is my favorite!

What were your wed­ding col­ors?

Our brides­maids wore sage green dress­es from Show Me Your Mumu. For the bou­quets, I want­ed a lot of green­ery. We didn’t need a lot of flow­ers or bright col­ors since Maui is so beau­ti­ful already. Of course the guys wore the Mys­tic Blue Suits from Gen­er­a­tion Tux. Jor­dan wore the mint green bow tie and pock­et square, while the grooms­men wore the navy bow tie and white pock­et square. So, our col­ors were blue and green.

Did any­thing go wrong at the wed­ding?

Maui was hav­ing crazy rain­storms! Our rehearsal din­ner got can­celled because it was on a boat. The water was too rough. Thank­ful­ly, we found a place that could accom­mo­date all of our peo­ple. We were so ner­vous about it rain­ing on our wed­ding day. We made the call about not putting up a tent at 9:00am the day of the wed­ding. I didn’t sleep at all the night before because I was so wor­ried about it rain­ing. It end­ed up being the most per­fect day ever! It was sun­ny, not too hot, and not too much wind. We got real­ly lucky!

How involved was Jor­dan in the wed­ding plan­ning?

He was actu­al­ly real­ly involved through­out the whole process. We would have week­ly meet­ings with our wed­ding plan­ner since we live in Port­land and the wed­ding was in Maui. Jor­dan enjoyed being involved with the plan­ning since he’s a project man­ag­er. Our wed­ding was like our own project togeth­er.

What is one piece of advice you have for future brides?

I got this advice from a friend: don’t spend a lot of time talk­ing to one per­son. Instead of hav­ing long-wind­ed con­ver­sa­tions with just a few peo­ple, have short and sweet con­ver­sa­tions with every­one. Go around and talk to every­one. Appre­ci­ate every­one who is there.

Jor­dan chimed in with some advice for future brides and grooms…

Some­thing is going to go wrong, so just enjoy the moments. Although we had weath­er issues and had to change rehearsal din­ner loca­tions, I loved our day—from the start to the end. It was incred­i­ble. Every­one always says the day goes by so fast. I wish we could do it all over again. At the end of the day, you’re going to be mar­ried no mat­ter what hap­pens.

What is one thing you love about mar­riage so far?

I loved chang­ing my name! I feel like that tra­di­tion is going away over time. Nowa­days, peo­ple are keep­ing or hyphen­at­ing their names. I love being Whit­ney Peter­son and being con­nect­ed by our last name.

Where did you and your hus­band go on your hon­ey­moon?

We did a “mini-moon” for two days after the wed­ding. We stayed in a cot­tage in Hana Maui. There is no cell phone ser­vice or tele­vi­sion there, so we laid by the ocean and relaxed for a cou­ple days. We are going to Por­tu­gal for two weeks in May for our hon­ey­moon.

Jor­dan, would you rec­om­mend Gen­er­a­tion Tux to oth­er brides and grooms?

Absolute­ly! It was a real­ly cool process. One of my bud­dies rent­ed from a dif­fer­ent com­pa­ny, and they had a few issues. I liked the look of your suits bet­ter, so I decid­ed to go with Gen­er­a­tion Tux. I have a friend who has been in a bunch of wed­dings. He is in the NFL, so he is a pret­ty mus­cu­lar guy. Suits nev­er fit him quite right because of his ath­let­ic body type. I was con­vinced that he would have to send his suit back. But he put it on, and it fit per­fect­ly! I think only one of our guys had to get a new jack­et sent. He got the new one with­in two days. The cus­tomer ser­vice was great, and every­one loved the online chat fea­ture. Return­ing every­thing was so easy. We espe­cial­ly loved the shoes and the slim fit of the suits.
