Unveiled: Whitney’s Wedding

Welcome to Generation Tux’s Unveiled! Here we interview real brides from real weddings to give you all the inside scoop. Whitney and Jordan’s love story and wedding day details are sure to inspire and give you all the feels.

Where was the wedding?

It was in Maui, Hawaii at Olowalu Plantation House. I was born and raised in Maui, and Jordan was born and raised in Portland, Oregon.

How did you and Jordan meet?

So, we actually met at work! We both work for a construction company. We are project managers there.

How did Jordan propose?

He proposed in December 2017. We went to Brook’s Winery in Portland. There was an outdoor area set up for us to do wine tastings. Jordan’s friend Jackson was there with us. Jordan asked Jackson, “Before we leave, can you take a photo of us?” I had no idea what was coming! As he was taking the photo, I looked over at Jordan, and he was down on one knee. I don’t really remember anything he said because I was in shock! I fell to my knees because I was so surprised.

Tell me about your wedding dress! What was your favorite thing about it?

I wore a Justin Alexander dress. It was form-fitting with a long train. My favorite part of the dress was the gloves that came with it. I just thought they were so cool! Jordan and I did a first look, but I wanted to surprise him with something different as I was walking down the aisle. I wore the gloves during the ceremony. The picture of our “I do” kiss is my favorite!

What were your wedding colors?

Our bridesmaids wore sage green dresses from Show Me Your Mumu. For the bouquets, I wanted a lot of greenery. We didn’t need a lot of flowers or bright colors since Maui is so beautiful already. Of course the guys wore the Mystic Blue Suits from Generation Tux. Jordan wore the mint green bow tie and pocket square, while the groomsmen wore the navy bow tie and white pocket square. So, our colors were blue and green.

Did anything go wrong at the wedding?

Maui was having crazy rainstorms! Our rehearsal dinner got cancelled because it was on a boat. The water was too rough. Thankfully, we found a place that could accommodate all of our people. We were so nervous about it raining on our wedding day. We made the call about not putting up a tent at 9:00am the day of the wedding. I didn’t sleep at all the night before because I was so worried about it raining. It ended up being the most perfect day ever! It was sunny, not too hot, and not too much wind. We got really lucky!

How involved was Jordan in the wedding planning?

He was actually really involved throughout the whole process. We would have weekly meetings with our wedding planner since we live in Portland and the wedding was in Maui. Jordan enjoyed being involved with the planning since he’s a project manager. Our wedding was like our own project together.

What is one piece of advice you have for future brides?

I got this advice from a friend: don’t spend a lot of time talking to one person. Instead of having long-winded conversations with just a few people, have short and sweet conversations with everyone. Go around and talk to everyone. Appreciate everyone who is there.

Jordan chimed in with some advice for future brides and grooms…

Something is going to go wrong, so just enjoy the moments. Although we had weather issues and had to change rehearsal dinner locations, I loved our day—from the start to the end. It was incredible. Everyone always says the day goes by so fast. I wish we could do it all over again. At the end of the day, you’re going to be married no matter what happens.

What is one thing you love about marriage so far?

I loved changing my name! I feel like that tradition is going away over time. Nowadays, people are keeping or hyphenating their names. I love being Whitney Peterson and being connected by our last name.

Where did you and your husband go on your honeymoon?

We did a “mini-moon” for two days after the wedding. We stayed in a cottage in Hana Maui. There is no cell phone service or television there, so we laid by the ocean and relaxed for a couple days. We are going to Portugal for two weeks in May for our honeymoon.

Jordan, would you recommend Generation Tux to other brides and grooms?

Absolutely! It was a really cool process. One of my buddies rented from a different company, and they had a few issues. I liked the look of your suits better, so I decided to go with Generation Tux. I have a friend who has been in a bunch of weddings. He is in the NFL, so he is a pretty muscular guy. Suits never fit him quite right because of his athletic body type. I was convinced that he would have to send his suit back. But he put it on, and it fit perfectly! I think only one of our guys had to get a new jacket sent. He got the new one within two days. The customer service was great, and everyone loved the online chat feature. Returning everything was so easy. We especially loved the shoes and the slim fit of the suits.
