Unveiled: Olivia's Wedding

Unveiled: Olivia's Wedding

Welcome to Generation Tux’s Unveiled! Here we interview real brides from real weddings to give you all the inside scoop. Olivia and Jerome’s love story and wedding day details are sure to inspire you and give you all the feels.

How did you and Jerome meet?

My best friend from high school, Zack, went to the Naval Academy for college. That is where he met Jerome, my now husband! They ended up in the same company and in a cluster of seven guys who all became really close.

I am 6 feet tall, and Jerome is 6’ 6”. Zack would always joke with me and say, “I have this roommate named Jerome, and he’s really tall! You would really like him.” He was never there when I went to visit, so I didn’t meet him for 2 or 3 years. We finally met, and I thought “Oh, he’s tall, but he’s also a really great person!” I ended up really liking him, and it was just a bonus that he’s tall. We hit it off!

When/where did you get married?

We got married on November 3, 2018 in Louisville, KY, where I am from. Our venue was Whitehall Estate and Gardens. The ceremony and reception both took place outdoors. It was rainy all week, but luckily we had the most beautiful weather on our day. It was the first weekend in November, and all the leaves on all the trees were just gorgeous.

Tell me about your wedding dress!

My dress was an Amalia Carrara by Eve of Milady. I’m a model. I’ve modeled bridal since I was about 16 years old, so I had an idea of what I wanted before shopping for my dress. It was a little bit outside of my price range, but I decided to try it on anyway. The top was encrusted with Swarovski crystals. It had just enough shine, and it caught the light in a really pretty way. To me, it looked very timeless. It has modern aspects to it, but it has a vintage, timeless feel. That set it apart from the many other dresses I’ve worn before.

What colors did you choose for your wedding day?

We kept everything pretty neutral. My bridesmaids actually wore gold sequin gowns. The sequins were more matte, though. They had to be just the right kind! We wanted the guys’ suits to be navy, since most of them met at the Naval Academy. Jerome wore the Midnight Blue Tuxedo and his groomsmen wore the Navy Blue Suit. For the florals, we went with a lot of greenery with soft, pink and blush colored flowers.

Did anything go wrong at the wedding?

My mom broke her foot the night before the rehearsal dinner! It was black as night—clearly broken. She powered through and refused to go to the hospital. She didn’t want to miss anything! She walked me down the aisle with my dad and then danced the whole night. Thankfully, the day after the wedding she went to the hospital and got an x-ray.

What was your favorite part of the wedding?

Of course we were excited to get married, but one of our favorite parts of the wedding was having all the people we love together in one place. Since everyone lives all over the world, the idea of having this big party was so important to us. Our families finally got to meet. That was the best part overall. Everyone together for a happy celebration.

My brother passed away about a year before the wedding. Another special part of the wedding was honoring and remembering him during the happy occasion. To me, he was still there. It was the best thing in the world.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to Jamaica! We didn’t know we were going. It was a surprise! My parents planned it. Everyone came together and contributed money as wedding gifts to send us there. The morning of the wedding they said, “Alright, make sure you have your passports…you’re going to Jamaica!” We stayed at an all-inclusive resort, and it was beautiful.

What is some advice you would give to other brides and grooms?

Don’t worry about the small things. At the end of the day, you are not going to care if you had enough Sharpies for the guest book. The only things you will care about are getting married, all the people that are there, and how much fun you are having!

Also, make sure you sit down and eat!

What is one thing you have loved about marriage so far?

I love being able to say that we’re married, and calling Jerome my husband. It doesn’t get old to say it! It’s the coolest thing ever.

Would you recommend Generation Tux to other brides and grooms?

Absolutely, we loved working with you guys. It was awesome! Our wedding coordinator recommended Generation Tux to us. Her name is Shelby White from White Cat Weddings. Like I said, our bridal party members live all over the place. I thought there was no way I was going to be able to coordinate everyone going to stores to get measured and pick up/drop off their suits. I loved the feature that reminds the groomsmen to order their garments. I had peace of mind that the suits were sent 14 days early just in case anything happens. It was one of the most seamless parts of our entire wedding planning process. As I’ve mentioned, my husband is 6’6,” so I was a little worried about how his tuxedo would fit. But everything fit perfectly!
