5 Things People Don’t Know About Renting from a Store

5 Things People Don’t Know About Renting from a Store

Many people think that renting a suit is the best way to go for a wedding, when they don’t want to buy, of course, and they would be right. But the decision to rent has to be made with a little bit of caution. Your local rental store may not be the best option for you and here’s why:

1. Pick up day before

With the time it takes to process your request and order your suit, coupled with the fact that you’re not even allowed to pick it up until the day before, there’s just not a whole lot of time to take care of any errors that may come up. And, believe us, there’s a good chance they will come up. Then you’re in a pickle and your bride is turning red and your photos may or may not turn out horrible. It’s fine.

2. Return day after

Is taking your suit back right after your wedding really something you want to think about? You spent the whole night partying. You’re severely hungover and have to be at the airport in an hour to leave for your honeymoon. Do you even know where your tie is? You could leave it up to your brother—the groomsmen have to return theirs, too, after all—but that’s a little risky.

3. Most don’t own the suits and tuxes

Smaller stores, like the ones you’d find in your hometown, often do not own their suits or have the suits in the store. They may look like they have plenty of options hanging from their rack, but more often than not, you can’t take one of those to go. The suits have to be ordered from a mass retailer. A mass retailer that produces suits and tuxes on a mass scale with standard sizes. So, really, you end up renting from a company who’s renting them from a bigger company.

4. Suits and tuxes are not made from high quality materials

For economical reasons and ease, most of the suits offered will be a polyester blend. While this may be the cheaper option for your wallet, it’ll also end up being the cheaper look on you. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and your wedding photos will be saying words like “ill-fitting” and “itchy” and “hot.” For the record, wool is the much better way to go.

5. Multiple trips

If you’ve already decided what to wear, the trips you take to the store will include the following:

  1. Get measured
  2. Final fitting and pick up (if everything fits properly)
  3. Return

That’s already a minimum of three trips, with the opportunity for more. Don’t you have better things to do?

While renting is still a great way to go when dressing for your wedding, you should still keep in mind how small shops work when you do. Know your options before diving straight in. You want to do what’s best for you, your bride, and your wedding. You deserve to look the best you can.
